As part of the St. Louis Cares Southeast Alumni scholarship program designed to honor Southeast alumni who have made a significant contribution to the St. Louis community; a fundraising reception was held at the home of Mary Strauss in the Central West End of St. Louis for TV actress and film star, Annie Wersching. The event was created to honor her parents, Frank and Sandy Wersching, both 1965 alums.
Annie, in collaboration with St. Louis Cares Southeast Alumni, seek to establish an endowed scholarship in her parents name specifically for St. Louis youth who wish to study theatre at the Earl and Margie Holland School of Visual and Performing Arts on Southeast's River Campus.
Entertainment was provided by Southeast musical performers and Annie sang two songs with a slideshow of her parents serving as a backdrop for her own performance. The evening included more than 80 attendees. Mary Strauss, co-owner of the Fox Theatre and long-time friend of the Wersching family also made a $2,500 contribution to the scholarship fund.
In all, the event was judged to be a heart-warming experience cherished by many of the attendees. Annie will be returning to the St. Louis area in the near future in order to conduct a Master Class with Southeast acting students at Southeast's River Campus. A fund raising reception will held at the River Campus following her instructional class.
